THE SHORT VERSIONModern homes, big green space, and a brand-new rec hub.
The Preserve is a community within Glenorchy, in North Oakville, built mostly over the last 10 to 15 years. I've lived here fifteen years, so this is the honest local's take, the good and the trade-offs, not a brochure
Where exactly is The Preserve?
The Preserve is the western pocket of Glenorchy: Neyagawa Boulevard to the west, Sixth Line to the east, north of Dundas, and still growing north toward Burnhamthorpe.
Think of the names nested, smallest to largest: The Preserve sits inside Glenorchy (which runs to Trafalgar), and Glenorchy sits inside North Oakville. You're minutes from the 407 and QEW, with Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital right nearby.
What the homes are like
Mostly modern detached homes, plus semis, freehold townhomes, and some condos, so there's a natural ladder from a first townhome up to a detached a few streets over.
Because the housing is newer, homes here tend to be move-in ready: high ceilings, open-concept mains, modern kitchens, and ensuites. Ravine and greenspace lots carry a real premium, exactly the kind of detail I weigh when pricing a home.

A brand-new community hub, a 3-minute walk from my door.
The Sixteen Mile Sports Complex just became one of the best rec facilities in Oakville. The arena has anchored it since 2010, but apart from that original ice, everything opened brand new in 2026. Here's what's in it:
Pools
Aquatic facilities in the new 65,000 sq ft centre.
Ice Arena
Four pads: three NHL rinks and an Olympic pad seating 1,500.
Fitness + track
Active-living centre with an indoor track.
Cricket field
Regulation cricket field and lit sports fields.
Gymnasiums
Full gyms plus flexible program rooms.
Skatepark + pump track
Plus a splash pad and playground.
Library
18,000 sq ft branch: study, kids & teen spaces, Wi-Fi.
Outdoor courts
Basketball, pickleball, tennis, beach volleyball.
Why it matters: in most neighbourhoods you drive twenty minutes to a facility half this good. Here, my daughter and I walk to it. That's rare, and it's the kind of thing that keeps pushing demand and values up.
Is it a good place to live?
For most families, yes. But a good agent tells you both sides.
What makes it great
Quiet, safe, and walkable to parks and schools
Newer, efficient homes with less to renovate
Real community feel, families everywhere
Tends to hold its value well
The honest trade-off
Dundas Street backs up at rush hour
If your daily commute runs along Dundas, you'll feel it
Most locals lean on the highways or GO train instead
Schools
Schools are one of the biggest reasons families choose here, served by strong public and Catholic options across Glenorchy and North Oakville.
Catchments shift as the area grows, so I always confirm the exact school for a specific address before you buy.
Parks and green space
Green space is the heart of this neighbourhood, planned in from the start, with large protected natural land like the Glenorchy Conservation Area nearby.
Getting around
Built for commuters, with one asterisk (that Dundas traffic).

COMMON QUESTIONS
The Preserve, quick answers
-
No. The Preserve is a community within Glenorchy, on its western side between Neyagawa and Sixth Line. Glenorchy is the larger community around it, and Glenorchy is part of North Oakville. The Preserve sits inside Glenorchy, not the other way around.
-
Most homes were built over the last 10 to 15 years, with the first homes in the Glenorchy area around 2012, and The Preserve still expanding north toward Burnhamthorpe.
-
For families and professionals, yes, it's quiet, walkable, newer, and close to highways, the GO train, and strong schools. The main trade-off is Dundas Street traffic at rush hour.
-
Mostly modern detached homes, plus semis, freehold townhomes, and some condos, on a master-planned layout with lots of parks and green space.
-
It's one of the most family-focused neighbourhoods in Oakville. Strong schools, parks on nearly every block, the new Sixteen Mile community centre and library within walking distance, and quiet, safe streets. It's built for families, and I'm raising my own here.
-
The main one is Dundas Street traffic at rush hour. It backs up, and if your daily commute runs along it you'll feel it. The other thing is that the northern edge is still being built out, so if you're up there you may have some construction around you for a while. Neither is a dealbreaker for most people, but you should know going in.
-
Yes. It's a newer, quiet, family-oriented community where people know their neighbours and kids play outside. Like anywhere, common sense applies, but safety is one of the top reasons families move here, and it's a big part of why I chose to raise mine here too.
